Asthma Biologic Therapy

Patient Being injected medicine

Asthma biologic therapy is a new treatment option for patients with severe asthma. These are advanced injection medications that target and neutralise a specific antibody, molecule or cell that is responsible for driving the asthma inflammatory process.

Asthma biologic therapy has been shown to reduce asthma attacks, improve asthma symptoms and reduce the need for regular oral steroids. Some biologics have also been found to improve the lung function of asthmatics.

As not all patients are suitable for asthma biologic therapy, the asthma specialist will provide a comprehensive evaluation to assess for suitability to receive these medications. Unlike other asthma medications, asthma biologic therapy is administered under supervision by the asthma specialist in the clinic. The asthma specialist will also monitor for subsequent clinical response to the selected biologic to determine how to continue this treatment option.
